The PoeTree + Toronto Fringe!

We’ve been hibernating here at the PoeTree Foundation for many months now, but only in preparation for some big news. As of January 9, 2019 the first PoeTree anthology will be on sale thanks to a partnership with the Toronto Fringe Festival!

If you slide on over to our Past Events, you’ll see that the tree was up at the Toronto Fringe this past summer, and in the 11 days of the festival over 400 people interacted with the tree, leaving over 250 poems on its branches. This wonderful anthology is a curated selection of those poems.

The PoeTree: Toronto Fringe Festival Bloom is a collection of 54 delightfully illustrated poems from patrons and passers-by of the Festival: their lessons on humanity, thoughtful confessions, generous advice, and musings on the Fringe itself. All of it is written in the writer’s original handwriting, and it all sells for the nice, round price of $20.00!

The PoeTree: Toronto Fringe Festival Bloom can be purchased online from Lulu beginning on January 9, 2019, as well as in person at Next Stage Festival, or, at the Fringe office (204-688 Richmond Street West). For more information, call 416-966-1062 ext. 0, or just slide on over to the Contact section.

And the best part is that the proceeds from the purchase of the book go right back to the Fringe, so grab a copy and show your support.

To learn more about the charitable drive behind the PoeTree Foundation’s blooms, head over on to the About section. We’re hoping this will be the first of many!

Here’s a little sample!

York University was a hoot!

Hey there,

The weather outside has gotten better (and strangely, more confusing) these past few days, but that can't stop The PoeTree from finding places to bloom. Last Wednesday we found ourselves at the York University Student Centre in the food court for the York Federation of Students' first ever Art Clash. In the event itself, artists are pitted against one another in time challenges to paint a work of art with a specific theme in mind. Audience members in the food court then voted on the winner based on the artwork created. And amidst this clashing of the artists there we are!

Check out more of the photos in the gallery! Close observers will notice some of last summer's vibrancy slowly returning to the branches of the tree. It's my hope that the tree always reflects the season in which it is planted. Whether or not that is actually possible is anyone's guess. But teamwork makes the dream work!

If you want The PoeTree for your own event, don't hesitate to reach out!

The PoeTree is going to York University!

Hey there folks! Cold enough for you?

Well here's some good news to warm your spirit: the PoeTree will make its first stop of the year at York University on January 10th. Part of an exhibit/art battle going on that day, the PoeTree will be set up in the food court and it's all thanks to the generous support and patronage of the York Federation of Students.

Check out the map, and if you know anybody on campus, don't forget to let them to know that they can stop by to take and/or leave a poem.

In other news, I recently took the PoeTree back to its Poetry Stand roots as part of my annual crucible of writing in the blistering cold to support the food bank. People were very sweet, and over five days, sitting outside at Robarts in sometimes -20 degree weather, I managed to raise $64.75.

This brings the grand total close to $1,500 since I started doing the Poetry Stand back in May of 2015. The full history, of course, can be read right here.

I'm looking forward to the new year and hope you are as well.

Branion Plaza and Guelph Today!

We're back!

What a lovely day we had on the University of Guelph's campus. The tree was set up for the day in Branion Plaza beside a painted cannon (the painting of which is a ritual at UGuelph) and the students loved it!

Students and the tree

We've got more photos in the Past Events section of the site, so don't hesitate to check those out. And don't forget to check out the article that was written up about the tree in Guelph Today!

Thanks to the Central Student Association at UGuelph for helping set us up.

In other news, we are beginning the ever arduous process of grant writing with the hopes of raising the money we need to build the iteration of the tree. So, if you know anyone, don't hesitate to give us a shout!

Night\Shift There We Were

Hey Everyone!

We're back from Night\Shift and we had a blast. Between stopping by The PoeTree to top the paper up and milling around seeing and interacting with all of the installations in downtown Kitchener, the night just flew by. Luckily, there are photos to remember the event! Here's one, featuring some rabbits that I believe are late, late, for a very important date!

And don't forget to check out all of the images in the Night\Shift gallery.

In other news, The PoeTree has an Instagram (@poetreefoundation) and a Twitter (@poetreefound) account! Check them both out, and follow follow follow. By following these accounts, you help to pitch The PoeTree to future investors by demonstrating market value. Or, you know, just follow because you care!
